Hello all! I am new to this forum. I have recently replaced the ECU in my 2001 1600i and I want to properly adjust the throttle body. The instructions given on this website are for VAG 1552.
01 - Engine Electronics (followed by the Q key)
08 - Read Measuring Block (followed by the Q key)
002 - Measuring Block 2 (followed by the Q key)
On my vag-com
002 - Measuring Block 2
measures the injection time, and not the The value of the accelerator potentiometer. Does anyone here know which group and block will measure The value of the accelerator potentiometer using vag-com?
Thank you.
George

Phil, thank you for your response. I live in Florida, so it does not get very cold here. When I say cold I mean below 18C. The car struggled to start from cold and ran very rough for a minute or so until it entered the regular warm up mode. From there it would ease in to a regular idle. Then, when driving, it had a flat spot just off idle. It idled okay and drove okay once you are over the flat spot. It almost died when accelerating. There was an audible whistle coming from the ECU whenever the vacuum was above 15in. I replaced the cap and rotor and all of the ignition leads. I replaced most of the original vacuum tubing, as well as relay 30. I checked the ignition timing using manfred’s easy method. And then I read a post on this forum describing my same symptoms and the solution, which was the ECU replacement. That post and the whistle emanating from my ECU are what prompted me to purchase a new ECU. With the new ECU the car still runs roughly in the cold until it enters the warm up mode. The warm up mode is a bit higher rpm than with the old ECU. Then it eases into a regular idle. At this point, if the rpms are raised above 1500rpm and the accelerator released, the rpm will fall to 1500 and stay there. It can be lowered with the clutch, putting a drag on the engine, and will fall to a normal idle. But each time it goes above 1500, that becomes the idle unless it is dragged down. That is where I am right now, and that is why I want to check the Potentiometer. Can that be done with the information you have provided? If so, can you explain to me how to do it in a step by step instruction?
The VAG-COM that I have is from a company called ross-tech and my version of VAG-COM is no longer supported. I am in the process of updating to the latest version called VCDS Lite. I will not be able to activate my VCDS until later in the week when the people at ross tech return from their holiday. Until then I cannot do a basic settings.
I purchased my 1600i from Miguel Padres at BTLMEX in May of 2001. The ECU that I removed is a 043 906 022E, SN: 34 3107 . B2, and it did not have the metal clip that secures the plug. So I suspect that I have been driving all these years on a less than perfect ECU. With the exception of cold starting and idle, the car has never run better then it does now with the new ECU.
Thank you, George

Phil, can you suggest what the arbitrary potentiometer value from group 006 of the value measuring blocks should be at idle? Is group 008, block 4 the proper measuring block for evaluating the idle speed control valve (N71), and, if so, what is the desired reading at idle?
Thank you.
George
