Having a problem with my beetle 1600i 2002 plate, i have had a problem for some time with the engine over reving after every time i change gear and just reving up the engine in general felt like the cable was sticking but i have checked and its not, I have changed relay 30 because it was sugested that could be a problem and it hasnt changed the problem. I havent adjusted anything, if any body could help it would be apreciated.
Many thanks

Hi Dean,
The very first thing I can suggest is that you check the condition of the (green) plastic vacuum pipes. One of the vacuum pipes on my mexican beetle had split and quite literally fell apart. Replacement plastic vacuum pipes are available from your local motor factor.
That seemed to be the problem which caused my car to rev up over 2,500 RPM and then rev down again below 700 RPM (and nearly stalled it) all on its own.
Another thing to check is the idle speed stabiliser. Check the resistance of it across it's connections. It should be 10Ω ± 0.3Ω. Also check the oil breather hose connected to it for any sludge or obstructions inside it. Check the air filter unit and the breather hose from the oil filler to the air filter unit at the same time for sludge.
Manfred may have some more ideas what could cause that as well.
Cheers,
Phil[/url]

Many thanks for your quick reply. I am busy today which is a pain so i can not check the above. Not sure how to check the stabillizer but i will check pipes etc and if you dont mind if that doesnt clear the problem i will give another posting. Many thanks for your time, this is an amazing site.

I have checked the green vacum pipes they seem to be fine, i took the air filter off and started the engine seems to still over rev. Not sure if that was the right thing to do just wondered if that would rule out anY pipe problem from the air filter, looks like i will have to test the idle stabilizer not quite sure how to do this, is the stabilizer a common problem?
Many thanks in advance
