Hi Paul!
I don't really know what the color of the cars No. 322+344 is, but it is not LA5E maritim blue, for sure.
My 1600i is painted with the color mentioned above and it's just not the same...
LA5E is kinda ... more blue.
If you want to know, what LA5E looks like, take a look at my subscription No309 located in Germany-> Nordrhein Westfalen -> ZIP 52076.
Best regards, Timo

Hiya Paul,
Do you know when your car was built since a "1997" mexican beetle can mean both 1997 or 1998 model years ?
To find out when it was built, you will need to open the rear bonnet and read the numbers stamped on the right hand side of the rear apron next to the bonnet catch.
The numbers are in the following order:-
ww d ffff
Where:-
ww = week number of the manufacture year (week 1 = first full week of year)
d = day number (1 = Monday, 7 = Sunday)
ffff = factory code (I don't know what the significance of these numbers are)
I think the paint code for your car is actually L G5R (Windsor Blue Metallic) guessing that it's a 1998 model year mexican beetle.
You should easily be able to get that paint from your local VW dealer.
Regards,
Phil

Week 18 and Tuesday
It was registered here in 1997 I suppose that means it could have sat for a while before import/registration.
Thanks
On further investigation I think its a 1996

Yep. it's definately a 1996 VIN.
The colour of your car in that case should be Martin Blue (L A5E), but if it isn't then something does not add up. Does your car still have the manufacturer's sticker on the left hand rear door post? If it does then that sticker will tell you the paint code along with the chassis and engine numbers.
I would also check the following areas to see if the numbers stamped into them all match:-
- VIN stamp on the black tag on the left hand door pillar next to the upper seat belt anchorage
- VIN stamp on the cover plate on the gear lever tunnel underneath the rear seat
- VIN stamp in the front boot, behind the petrol tank at the centre
The above numbers must all match. If they do not then you may have a problem.
Good luck with finding that sticker.
Regards,
Phil

Thanks Phil
All numbers match, but no sticker to be found anywhere.
Timo states that his car is Martin Blue (L A5E) and thats nothing like mine.
I think you were closer on the 1st guess, I looked it up on http://www.paints4u.com/AutoColours.aspx?ProductID=6912. I know you cant compare it properly but its closer than LA5E.
