Guten Tag everyone, well for my part Vera has been running quite well, the lack of power was cured by a replacement exhaust, which I helped design Very Happy aber one draw back was the even worse heating to the passenger area. The emulsified oil in the breather system still persists even after two oil/filter changes in less than 3k kilometers, I did add slick 50 at the last change and the tappet noise stopped! Shocked The corrosion problems are worsening and to put them right will require a lot of work (and Money) She is still pulling to the left but the tracking is spot on, maybe camber is incorrect, is this adjustable? My next problem is the oil filler, it fell from the alternator stand and was destroyed by the fanbelt! is it possible to purchase just this part? (mine is the push fit type). I still haven't checked the fault codes, maybe if I do it will run even better. My speedo is reading 60 MPH at 50 MPH and still feels like it needs another gear. Apart from that she's fine Very Happy. Happy Beetling Gary

Hiya Gary,

You can very easily get the alternator stand from VW Heritage, part number AC101210 at £35.50 ex VAT.

Have you tried to blast out the air filter and breather hoses with compressed air? It may work since you cannot get the sludge out easily with kitchen roll and it may help.

I have also noticed that your car still pulls to the left, have you checked the brake calipers and rear hub oil seals?.

If the rear hub oil seals are leaking gearbox oil then they must be replaced with genuine oil seals (pattern parts ones are crap !!) and a new set of brake shoes.

If the front brake calipers look very old or rusty then it may be a good idea to replace both of them (that's what I did to my beetle a few years ago). You can very easily get those from VW Heritage (only get the genuine ATE calipers since the pattern ones don't fit at all!!), part number 113-615-107/8/A - sold in pairs. You will also need new brake pads as well (part number 311-698-151/B). The brake pads fitting kit part number is 311-698-151/B/KIT.

It may also be a good idea to check the condition of your brake discs as well. If they are badly scored, distorted or cracked then they should be replaced. Unfortunately it's pretty difficult to get those brake discs in the UK (pattern part ones are sold as a complete brake disc/hub assembly which doesn't fit the mexican beetle at all !!!). If you need to replace the brake discs, I would suggest any of the following:-

- VW Classic Parts Center
- Gebrueder Behling (unfortunately they only accept bank transfers, but they may accept Paypal if you ask them)
- Manfred Graf

Manfred may know a few more places where to get them from. The brake discs themselves (excluding the front hubs) are identical to european beetles fitted with brake discs from 1975-1986.

Good luck with your car and tackling the rust on it.

Cheers,

Phil

Hi Phil, thanks for getting back to me, it's not the stand that's broken it's the filler bowl, and the part you have quoted is the pre injection part,(no cut out for manifold) I phoned them and they told me that it would have to come from south america. This stand also has the standard screw thread and not the push fitting type orofice. The emulsified oil was taken care of by my trusty compressor, a once a week job. I have replaced the pads and shoes and the guy told me everything else was ok. The steering is also quite heavy, combine this with pulling to the left it is quite uncomfortable.

Hiya Gary,

You could also get it from Antonio Trejo by emailing him on partsvw@hotmail.com. He gets stuff sent out very quickly and you should be able to get the parts you need within about 10 days.

However, his pricing isn't always consistant and there's also the rather high amount of UK Import Duty with VAT slapped on top of it to pay.

I hope this helps,

Phil
