Oil filter location.

Hi,
I was wondering if anybody out there thinks like me that the oil filter is in a bad location. On the one side you have hot air from the cylinder head and cylinders blasting hot air at the filter, and on the other side you have the hot exhaust system also heating up the filter.
Did VW put the oil filter here because it was the most convenient and cheapest place to put it, or is there another reason that I don't know about?
Seems to me to be a very bad location and what can I do about it? I do have a few ideas of my own but I was wondering what you think.

Hiya gramey lad,

I think VW put it there since it was the only possible place to put it and my beetle's engine has had no issues with it either. It's also reasonably easy to change the filter from that location as well.

Ive not had any problems i just think it could be better.Maybe some kind of heat shield or an adaptor onto oil pump to move filter to a different location altogether.What do you think phil.

Yes.

I think that's the worst place for this stuff.

A time ago, i read that a lot of engine tuners (for classical Beetles) refuse to put the filter near the exhaust system becouse the oil could be heating after cooled. Better is locate it far away from heating places. One solution is the Porsche 356 style FRAM filter... but is expensive.

But if ACD engines works in a warm climate like the mexican, i think this "mistake" it isn´t so bad.
