ECU communication fault (not my 1600i)

Hi everyone,

I have just had a look at Steve's (in Surrey) 1600i today and found that I could not communicate to it's ECU with my VAG 1552. It works fine on my car.

I have heard that it could be a blown (SMD) transistor (I cannot remember where I read it from) somewhere on the ECU's PCB. Could anyone tell me what transistor to look for or where it's located?

Hi everyone,

Just to let you all know that I have found the problem with Steve's 1600i ECU communication.

It seems to be the ignition transformer casuing splats on the K-line (and possibly other senders). My VAG 1552 (and VAGCOM laptop) was able to talk to his ECU with the ignition on and the engine not running.

Also thankyou for your help via email too Manfred, it gave me a big clue about the VAG 1552 communication problem.
