				| Hello,
I want to ask the same question as this
 http://1600i.foren-city.de/topic,92,-hilfe-passt-1600i-in-1200-mexico.html
But the link is out of date.

I am in the planning stages at the moment but I want to buy a 1200 Mexican (project) and modernise it as much as possible.
What exactly do I need to do this, I am assuming a complete engine, tinware, wiring loon, ecu, gearbox etc.

Also is it possible to still buy all this new?
Any links to show this work completed?

 Thanks in advance.

				| Hi Manfred and Phil - I have spoken to both of you over the years of my Mexican ownership (I own an older 1200) - thanks for the links.
I knew it would be possible to do this, sorry if its a repost. I have not yet bought my project but I have plenty of ideas. I would like it as a daily driver and I know the 1600i is more than capable.

My two options are, either buy a later model with the correct engine and paint it the colour I want, or buy the car I want and fit the later engine. If I buy the earlier car I would not need the CAT so it may be a bit quicker but buying the later car would probably be a cheaper option. However I want to restore a vehicle as a hobby.

I considered fitting a 1914cc engine and asked on the samba but the main reply was keep it stock, so thats why I am now thinking about the 1600i.

Plenty more reading to be done.

Thanks for your help so far.
