Hi everyone,
I have just had an odd problem with my beetle where it loses a lot of fuel pressure overnight. It's very hard to start the engine when cold (I had to turn the starter serveral times for about 2 or 3 minutes) before the engine would start at all.
After I had (eventually) managed to get the engine to run at all and let it run for about a minute and switched it off. I then managed to restart the engine immediately about 30 or so minutes later.
I have replaced both relays 30 (ECU relay) and 80 (fuel pump relay) without sucess. The car had originally started to misfire intermittantly (hence I originally thought it was relay 30).
Does anyone think that the fuel pump's non-return valve could be faulty?
Thankyou everyone in advance,
Phil

Hiya Red1600i,
I have already replaced the fuel filter (I guess you mean the one underneath the left hand side of the rear seat) 20,000 km ago and have always replaced them at every 22,500 km. I could try getting another fuel filter to see if that makes any difference.
I have also ordered a brand new fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator from VW Classicparts (the fuel injection booklet seems to suggest that) and see if that will make any difference as well.
I will try and get another fuel filter tomorrow and see how well it runs.
Cheers,
Phil

Hi everyone,
Just to let everyone know that I have managed to replace my fuel pump, but sadly I could not test the fuel pressure.
I had bought Sealey's VSE211 fuel injection test kit and thought that the 1600i Beetle used a standard schrader valve on it's test point, but it seems to be a non-standard one. Does anyone know what standard or thread size the Digifant fuel injection test point is?
I'll be starting up my mexican beetle tomorrow to see if it starts straight away and if it does I may have solved my fuel pressure problem.
Happy beelting everyone,
Phil
